Every year we are excited to teach and ride with kiters from all over the world. Our team is made of 100% kiteboarders and we really enjoy sharing our passion with others. Join us in our kite community, whether you stay in the Kitehouse or in a Beach villa, we all hang out together for parties, BBQs, poker games, water volleyball, bonfires on the beach, soccers games and more !!!!

Location / Conditions

Located in the NW corner of Costa Rica is a bay called Bahia Salinas, known to be the 8th windiest place in the world. We have 25mph+ wind everyday all day long!!!

We have generally flat water conditions due to a reef that blocks chop and also an amazing island in the middle of the bay with a perfect white sand bar giving butter flat water on the inside. You can kite out there or ride with us on the kite lesson boat. The main kite beach called Playa Copal is long and the wind is side shore, perfect for teaching and practicing after your lesson.

We offer lessons either on the island with boat support or on the kite beach. Two great options.

The weather is always warm and the water is warm most of the time. However, strong winds can mix up cooler deeper water during certain tides. We provide 2/2 shorty wetsuits and booties during lessons and also offer them for rent or purchase.

Getting Here

The two international airports in Costa Rica are (SJO) San Jose which is a 5 hour drive and (LIR) Liberia just little over 1 hour. LIR is the recommended airport since it is much closer and easier because it is a smaller airport.

We provide shuttle services from LIR with our kite truck for $80 that can hold up to 5 people and all gear and luggage you can bring. A taxi at the airport will run $85, but we can send one for you for $75. You can also catch the bus into the town of Liberia (10km), and then catch another bus to La Cruz, our town (60km) and finally a last bus to us, Playa Copal (9km).

From Liberia or San Jose you head north on the Panamerican Highway to La Cruz, our small town which has a real Costa Rican community and everything you need. (Groceries, drugstores, banks, gas station, bus station, restaurants etc.).

From La Cruz follow the signs for "Bahia Salinas". You will take down a steep hill with an amazing view of the bay. Once down the hill you will arrive on a dirt road. Simply follow it and after about 10-minutes you will see on your left our La Sandia Cabinas sign, you can stop there to check in if you are staying there or keep heading 5-min more and turn right at the Playa Copal sign.

Follow that until you see theKiteHouse sign and pull up to this amazing house with pool and bunch of kiters. Ask for Kent or Damien we will be either at the house hanging talking kite or down on the beach with a kite in the hand!!!

Transportation

If you are coming to Costa Rica via LIR just for 24/7 kiting and for our many local activities you do not need a rental car. Our shuttle or local buses are fine. Also, if you stay in theKiteHouse or the beach villas we provide, occasionallyother kiters with cars go up to town for food/beer or you can use the local bus. You will not be too isolated.

If you want to travel and see many areas of Costa Rica, a rental car is good idea. It is also possible to use local buses and taxis. Our windy bay is the main kiteboarding spot of Cost Rica, but there are other amazing things to see and do in this beautiful and extreme activities country.
